Dr. Lawrence Markovitz, award-winning Director of Virginia Vein Care, leads operations in both their McLean and Purcellville, Virginia, locations. Since 2003, the Markovitz team has specialized in the treatment of varicose and spider veins and other venous conditions using state-of-the-art procedures that include laser, ultrasound, radio frequency, and other advanced technologies, including the VeinGogh Ohmic Thermolysis and VNUS RF Closure procedures.
Before returning to the Greater Washington, DC, area, Dr. Larry Markovitz enjoyed a distinctive career in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery for the Mayo Health System's Midelfort Clinic, a position he held from 1998 through 2002. As a specialist in thoracic surgery and venous diseases, Dr. Markovitz developed highly successful surgical procedures that involved minimal invasion of the lung and heart.
Dr. Larry Markovitz served as Chairman of Thoracic Surgery and was Attending Thoracic Surgeon for two esteemed hospitals in the Washington, DC, area before working for the Mayo Clinic.

Markovitz has published 13 articles in various scientific journals. He was part of the team of collaborators designing the official poster for the 16th Annual Mayo Conference on Quality and has presented the results of his research to the medical community eight times.
Lawrence Markovitz, MD, maintains active certification from the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He maintains active membership in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
